We’re all a little feverish

Tony stayed home sick yesterday. We all have a little bug or something. Sore throat, fever. Yuck. I hope it gets out of our house soon! Luckily the little guy hasn’t gotten sick yet. He’s just crabby and hard to deal with when we don’t feel well.

On another note, I got my produce delivery today and got some more romanesco cauliflower! Can’t wait to fix some. We also got more kale, which I have been making chips out of-so yummy and a healthy snack.

At home with 2 kids…

Nadia has been sick for the past two days so I’ve been home with two kids; one sick and one just very fussy! Testing my patience for sure! But I love them. They both really are sweet. Nadia is so concerned about passing her cold virus on to baby brother.Hopefully she can go back to school tomorrow, but only if her fever is gone.

I was hoping for a quiet week since my classes started yesterday, but looks like it’s not going to happen. I’ll have to get my assignments done this weekend while Tony is home to help me. For some reason, Nicholas doesn’t want to be anywhere except for on my lap AND have my undivided attention. I guess I’ll have to start reading my assignments aloud to him. He’ll know all about organizational management by the time he’s 5 months old!

Nicholas is 4 weeks old today. He is so strong and so full of energy. He stands up in my lap when he’s mad and I noticed this morning I have bruises from him kicking me. I don’t know what we’ll do when he’s mobile. I have a feeling we are in for lotsĀ of trouble with this big guy!

Fresh Organic Produce

A few months ago, I started ordering produce from a place called “Naturally To Your Door.” They deliver fresh organic produce on Saturdays from local organic farms. The cool thing about this delivery service is that you don’t have to order every week. I usually order every 2 weeks. Nadia and Tony like the fruit and I enjoy exploring the new types of vegetables they send us.

My new favorite veggie is called Romanesco Cauliflower and it looks like this:

I quite enjoy roasting it with a little bit of olive oil and a touch of salt and crushed red peppers.

I have also learned about using greens from other veggies to eat, such as a pesto I made with radish greens. Yum!

Looking forward to this week’s delivery on Saturday. Just hoping I have time to cook and prepare some interesting veggie dishes for my picky crowd of eaters!

This is my big strong 3 week old holding his head up like a big boy! If he could get his arms and legs going at the same time, I think he would be strong enough to crawl.

Happy 3 week old birthday to Nicholas! He is growing and changing so much. I just can’t help but stare at him most of the time. I don’t want to miss anything.

Big sister Nadia is quite a good helper! She loves to hold Nicholas and talk to him. She loves combing his hair, too; which is interesting since she doesn’t enjoy combing her own hair!

I started this blog as a class assignment for my library science program, but I decided that I should use it for more than just that.

Right now I am on maternity leave taking care of my darling little baby boy, Nicholas. He was born on December 29, 2011, and weighed 10 lbs 2 ozs. I had a really great experience with natural birth and my husband was an excellent coach! Nicholas still has his days and nights mixed up, so I am not getting much sleep yet.

This semester’s classes start next Wednesday. It will be a lot of work, but I am excited about it. Just hoping our sleeping habits improve before too long so I can get plenty of rest and still get my work done.
